2011 has quite possibly been the most hyped and anticipated season in supercross history, and with good reason. James Stewart has returned to racing, while rival Chad Reed is attempting to mount a comeback. Ryan Villopoto is expected to pick up where he left off after winning seven races in 2010, and everyone is eagerly awaiting to see how Ryan Dungey will stack up against the competition that had been absent for much of last year. Throw in a host of other riders that can win races, and it’s easy to see why supercross fans were awaiting the arrival of A1 with the anticipation of a 5-year-old about to eat an ice cream cone. At the conclusion of practice, there were two guys that had made heavy impressions. The first was Rockstar Suzuki’s Martin Davalos, who battled for the fastest time with KTM’s 16-year-old Ken Roczen during the first practice session. Davalos wound up second fastest, but completely dominated the second session after Roczen pulled off the track when he bruised his left leg in an over-the-bars crash heading into the whoops. In the 450 division, Stewart was taking no prisoners, and he dominated both sessions. In fact, the only person to beat Stewart’s time was himself. After setting a fast time, JS7 would cruise for a lap, then dial up the speed and lay down another fast lap.
