fun is number one reason for sure. Challenging is pretty close second tho.
Hands down, there simply is nothing more fun to do. I used to joke around and say it was my second favorite thing to do.

But to be honest, it's probably first.
I'll never forget the feelings I got as a kid when my neighbor let me ride their RM80 and I could just twist the throttle and ride for miles (literally... many, many miles). WAY better than riding a bicylce up and down hills in my neighborhood.
I've never met a person who rode and said: "hmmm.. it's OK, but not that fun." That person would have to be in a walking comma.
