Question To many classes at local races????

So I was bored and looking at local race results and saw that there are almost 40 different classes run in a race weekend and they all only have a few people in them at most races. It is like they keep making more classes so that everyone has a class they can win in. At these small events why do they break up the age group classes by skill level??? It used to always be that you rode against people your skill in the 250 and 450 classes and people your age in the age classes. And you actually had more than one other person on the line with you. ANd they used to have a cool open class for people who wanted another moto. Now I see that most tracks don't even let pros or beg ride in some of these open classes (which many tracks have further broken down into schoolboy and BTH, 125cc two-stroke ect.). I realize they fill all these classes at the big GFI events and amateur nationals, but the local race scene has lost its flare by adding all these classes.

The best race of the day at one of the local tracks I grew up racing at was the open class. It had a little bit of everyone in it and people got to see the new hot shot 125 Jr kid battle against vet experts, 450 novices, int and pros. It was the class that determined the running order for the fastest people at the track that day. And it was cool to see a novice get a good start once in a while and battle with the local pros.

Oh well, I guess making sure everyone has a class they can bring home a trophy in is more important than just having fun racing against a gate with more than 5 people on the line and racing for the fun of racing no matter who it was against. I have wanted to get back into racing a little at the local level where people still have fun and don't act like it is a business, but I am not sure that really exist anymore?
