For what it's worth....I READ someplace that if your head IS subjected TO a side impact, the neck protector (together WITH the helmet) could actually WORK TO leverage your head away FROM your torso. Scary!!!

I've also heard that most serious neck injuries occur when your head gets pushed forward toward your chest (as you described, harvdog). If you look at the PCS and SixSixOne neck rolls, they don't seem TO offer much protection FROM such an impact.

I'm totally freaked out by neck injuries and I'm NOT "too cool" FOR a neck roll. WITH so many kids wearing them, I think it has become MORE "socailly acceptable" anyway. But I'm still not sure weather a neck roll (or donut) is the solution to neck injuries. I'm OPEN TO various arguments though...anyone out there WITH a medical background care TO chime IN...
