Team SVM makes their debut at A1
San Jose, Calif. (January 7, 2008) -- The Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an
FIM Championship, started off great for Team SVM, with two of their three
riders making the main event after a sloppy mud race at Angel Stadium in
Anaheim, California. Jeff Northrop started off the day by setting the 2nd
fastest lap time in the first privateer practice session. While Eric
McCrummen set the 4th fastest time in his respective practice session.
Unfortunately the muddy conditions where not ideal for Billy Payne to make
his come back debut due to a practice injury sustained a week before A1.
After riding Practice Billy made the decision to wait until he is closer to
100% before making his return to Supercross.
While Eric McCrummen was sent to the LCQ after a few spills in the difficult
conditions in the 1st Lites Heat Race; Jeff Northrop transferred directly
into the main finishing 9th in the 2nd Heat Race. The LCQ saw McCrummen
storm to the front of the pack and dominate the rest of the field. With a
bobble before the triple on the last lap, a hard charging Andrew Mcfarlane
made the pass on McCrummen. With only a woop section and a few corners to
go, McCrummen regained the lead with a dramatic blitz through the woops and
took the LCQ win.
The Lites main event saw both riders get through the first corner in mid
pack. Jeff Northrop rode a strong and consistent race finishing in 12th
place. While Eric McCrummen toughed out a 20th place finish due to a
mechanical issue caused by the wet and muddy conditions.
