Hey DumbA--! Support your local dealer

WTF!! I am sick and tired of seeing local riders F grinding on Dealers/Shops to get the absolute “Best” price they can get. It is REGODAMNDICULOUS !! Whether it is the cheapest price on a new bike, the cheapest price on a helmet or the cheapest price on a F Qt of oil, just pay the $$ they are asking and STFU !!

Do you go into your local Grocery store, have the clerk ring up your milk, bread, beer and diapers – he gives you’re the total $45.49 and you say “ You know what , I can get this down the street for $39.95 – how bout it, can you cut me a deal?” No – then why do people think it is OK to grind your parts guy?

What if you showed up to work this next Monday and your boss pulls you into his office. He says “ BillyBob – I know I have been paying you $18 an hour lately but I think this week I’m gonna pay you – Oh I dunno know – how about $15.95 ? Would that be OK?” You would say kiss my A !! It’s the same when you GRIND your dealer!!

I would say 99% of the people in the motorcycle business are in it because they are just like you “ They LOVE to ride”!!. They did not get into the business to make a million dollars. There is a long standing joke in the M/C Industry – goes like this “ Do you know how to make a SMALL fortune in the Motorcycle business ? Start with a BIG one !! Get it ? I’ll make it simple for any of you out there with simple minds. If a shop is asking $99.95 for a pair of boots that price is set so that they can make a “FAIR” margin ( that’s profit for the simple ones). The profit they make enables them to pay the rent, pay the employees, pay PG&E, pay the insurance, pay for advertising, - and on and on. If they figure it right and business is good he may even get to pay himself at the end of the month. The big problem lately is that with certain dealers selling new bikes at ZERO profit margin and the internet deals available on parts and gear it is damn near impossible for the local dealer to make a PROFIT. Bottom line is if YOU don’t support your local dealer/shop they WON’T be in business when you need him!!

Re: Hey DumbA--! Support your local dealer

I got no problem supporting local dealers. All my bikes have been bought locally. Parts on the other hand is a joke. One dealer wanted to charge me shipping for a part he says he always has in stock. I asked him why they would charge me shipping and he said thats the way we do it. He then told me he could have it in 5-7 days. I can get it on the internet in 2-3 days, no tax, no shipping, and no $hitty attitude. If the dealers would stock common parts, fork seals, levers, jets, etc, i'd support them. But it seems like everytime I call a shop for a part, all I hear is we can order it for you.....These are just my experiences.......Oh yeah, I sell boats part time so if anyone is looking to pay MSRP on a Nautique, hit me up!!lol

OMG just throw the fat anchovie into the water already dude, your bound to hook some nut. One post, "Dean Sweet"? Could you have thought of a better name, perhaps, "Michael Hunt" or something. Still though, your rant makes me want to support my local internet super warehouse even more. Funny stuff.

I just can't help myself so here it goes... First off Attitude goes a long way in business and you seem to have the same attitude as many of the local dealers around here with your statement of (just pay the $$ they are asking and STFU !!). Why on earth would I give my hard earned dollars to some jerk off with an attitude? When I order a part online the nameless faceless person who will never see or talk to me again is nicer and more helpful than some of the employees at the local shops around here. When I moved here from Chicago I decided to buy a bike locally instead of from my sponsor back home who gives us bikes and parts at dealer cost. None of the dealers around here had the bike we needed and when we finally found one at East Bay they ended up screwing us over. I tried over and over to get parts from local dealers even though they cost more money for the part plus the sales tax because I thought it was important to support my local dealer. EVERY time I needed a part not one dealer ever had the simplest most common parts in stock. First KTM than Suzuki. It didn't matter if it was a clutch, a bolt or a gasket it was not to be found. It was always the same answer, "we can order it and have it in a week or so". Why the hell should I wait a week or so for a part that I need today? I order it on the internet, I get it in a day and I've been riding three or four times before the part from the dealer ever comes in. I wanted to buy a spark arrester on Tuesday so we could go riding on Friday. I went to Cycle Gear in Pleasanton and they did not have one. They told me they could order it and have it in 2-6 business days. I could order it myself, have it overnighted and it would still cost less. I than went to Motowirx in Livermore. Same exact thing, however they were much more knowledgeable, no bull crap attitude and very friendly. I ended up buying grips, chain lube, gloves and a bunch of other stuff. Plus I never even thought about asking for a discount. That's the kind of shop I hope stays around and prospers. I could care less if the rest of the shops with the employees and owners with an attitude like yours goes out of business or not because you probably deserve it. You ask if we ask for discounts at the grocery store and the answer is no. However, if we don't like the prices or the managers a diick we can go down the street and shop elsewhere. How many customers can a bike shop lose before they go out of business? I had to laugh when you said we should just pay what the dealer wants us to pay for a new bike and not ask for a discount. I'm sure you did just that when you went to the dealer and bought your new car or told your realtor "Lets not make an offer we'll just pay full asking price". As for us simple minded people as you put it regarding the profit margin, shops are using the manufacturers suggested retail price and not setting the price of products on their own. Since everyones expenses are different there will always be some leeway with regards to pricing structures and that's where the discounts come in. In conclusion, we love Motocross and pretty much everything Motocross related and do our best to support our sport and our local shops. The reality though is the fact that in these times people are struggling to make their mortgage payments, car payments, put food on the table or send their kids to college. The internet saves us money, time and gas and for a lot of people that could mean the difference of even getting to ride.

woe dude... try decaf?? Jeez.

So... ya know what would be funny? If this guy actually worked for one of the internet outlets... because like others who've responded, this guys rant has actually put a blemish on the local shops. If I were a local shop reading this, I'd be putting distance between me and this knuckle head. What a crack up.

Re: Hey DumbA--! Support your local dealer

Nowadays with traffic, I don't have the time to go to a local shop. Especially after work. I will be going out to Motowerx tomorrow morning though, impressed with the shop and inventory. Out of the shops around me, rarely do I get any type of attitude, except once at the new Fremont Honda. I think she was pissed she was working on a Sunday. I buy off the net for convenience over price, I will go out of my way to go to Motowerx though.

Re: Hey DumbA--! Support your local dealer

Vic is 1000% Correct!! What an absolute way to be a business 101 flunkeeee with a diatribe like that...I have local shops here where I play a game where I will go there 1st just to see if they have what I need ,I.E. tires, chain, oil, fender, grip glue, bike shine, spark plug, brake lever, sprockets all for the Popular Honda 250f...Everytime and I mean everytime "Sorry we can order that" ,WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MOTOWRX in Livermore..They usually have basics, but it is to far away for a quick drive.. So with that said and my real effort to try and buy locally ,I would say my answer is clear!! Most shops dont know their ass from a clutch lever... I can use the internet and order from MOTOSPORT and get it here on my steps in 2 days, never a hassle on returns, exemplory customer service and oh ya a better price...Guess thats the recipe for me to drive down to my local shop to hear the most common phrase in our sport now. "I CAN ORDER THAT FOR YOU" My reply is "Balls on Chin Moron"
