Club, Argyll & Mike Sexton
After all this time, I finally met Mr. Sexton this past weekend. Nice guy, and I think we can all appreciate the hard work he has done with our local tracks, especially Argyll, which used to be the bastard, step-child of the NorCal Scene. Keep it up Mike! (and CREW!!)
I was 3rd bike on the track at Club on Sat & 1st bike on the track at Argyll on Sunday. Both tracks had their usual "killer prep" and were major fun, given our fantastic weather in Mid-Feb. Love the changes to Argyll & the Club layout is getting stale, but still a good time. However....
I just wish both tracks were not SOAKED with water right before they open. I like to get up early, get my arse out to the tracks and get my ride on early, so I have time to get home, clean my bike, and take care of "adult biznaz" (you kids will understand later...) Showing up at Club at 8:30 and getting on the track at 9-ish used to reward with early bird with damn near perfect track conditions. Lately, about 11am is when both Argyll & CM seem to set-up, and hit the sweet-spot for riding. The only thing you get for being early is an excessively muddy bike. Seems like someone snuck into Sandhill and stole their playbook! And that's just wrong.
Mike: major props for track prep & the effort, but can we please get less water in the morning, and hit any dry spots as they appear?
And before it's "dogpile on Oakrider," this is valuable, customer feedback; meant to improve the tracks for all riders. Take it for what it is.

DOGPIIIIIIIILLLLEEEE!!!!
I get what you're saying, I experienced it myself at Argyle last week. It was a little irritating, but since I was riding instead of working, I maintained a positive outlook.
1. It's great training/practice.
2. I really wouldn't even mention getting the dirt bike dirty. It's like going swimming and being disappointed that your hair got wet.
3. The track stays nice longer. We all hate that slick noon watering, this helps minimize that. Remember Riverfront on a Saturday?? It was just dangerous after the noon watering, years back.
Perhaps if I wasn't elated to be riding, it would have been more irritating. It actually made me laugh to watch my front fender wobbling around like a tubby lady trying to catch a Chihuahua.

Re: Club, Argyll & Mike Sexton
watering is key to the track staying good and developing good lines and ruts..
me personally dont get out too the track till 1030-11 due to it being wet and not developed.. i never want to be the first one on the track cause the track will never be like that during a race.. so why practice that.?!
i remember when club had its "down" phase that the best time to ride was around the 1030 hour.. and me who was getting there at that time was pissed cause it should be good till atleast noon.. and now hearing that it was good and tacky all day is unheard of..!! everyone should take advantage of it..
just my .02 cents

Re: Club, Argyll & Mike Sexton
aw come on its good for you cali boys to get some mud practice!!! i like when the track is muddy in the morning because i know i will be the one making the lines....its fun when its slick and sloppy, and on top of it being good practice for balance and coordination, if the track is perfect at 830, he will only get a few hours of good riding out of it. thats why its better to be muddy for practice before the races because then it will be good for the motos. i do understand though, sometimes its nice to just be able to show up early, get an hour or two of riding in, and go home.

Re: Club, Argyll & Mike Sexton
I was at club about a year ago and was the 1st rider out....riding the pillow top of the track and making my own lines was the best! Just put some good tires on your bike and enjoy the fresh virgin loam.
I will admit if it's sloppy muddy at 1st it's no fun. Club has hoses all around the track, with proper watering in the am, followed up with touches here and there as needed, it will stay good well into the early afternoon.
Speaking of Sandhill, it was actullly real good Saturday. Watering was spot on and by 12:30pm it was getting dry, but still fun.

Re: Club, Argyll & Mike Sexton
I rode @ Argyle on sunday for the first time in a year and had a blast. It had some great ruts but there were one or two corners that only had one good line. I didn't get there untill 10:30 and there were still a few soft spots but most of the track set up pretty well.

I think they have to water it down pretty good due to the wind, if it had been windy with all the sunshine it would of been dry real fast. We were there til 2pm and it was spot on.

Re: Club, Argyll & Mike Sexton
I was there today for the first time in about 2 or 3 months and I'm glad I went. Lots of fun things there. the track has great flow and some decent obsticals. Yea it may have been a little wet early but I totally understand the reason, because it stayed nice all day. HEY NO WIND, whats up with that, which is always a good thing. I got to dice it up with a few guys even Prozack jumped the side of the infield table to go by,,, nice line, and then checked out. The track has a lot of line options for passing. I really liked the guy on a Yamaha with no numbers that had to cut across the infield to pass and looked like he was going to take out my front wheel when he came back on, Dude there is a million places to go by.
It was a great day and a great ride, maybe I'll get to meet more of you Nor Calrs next time. Qutos to Mike GREAT JOB with the track.

Re: Club, Argyll & Mike Sexton
It would be nice if the track was groomed ( just the areas with the real deep ruts ).
