This sounds like me and my old man when I was 18!! Pick up dog POOP!! But he is right,,,get a nice little lunch cooler,,,make your lunch with Healthy Stuff...Learn how to cook? That chicken I made at the Club last race was virtually no fat and healthy, make up a bunch and have it for a few days ? When I was really training and in great shape thats the only way to keep away from the fast food junk.. Shiiit that was 25 years ago....Have fun!! Now I am in Grandpas Camp....OUT OF SHAPE!! I still lift weights every day though...

Re: Training

I've heard that rowing is excellent for MX. It's low impact, works a lot of muscles/muscle-groups and strengthens your cardio. If you can only do one thing, I think rowing is probably one of the top 3 things you can do.

Re: Training

sit ups and push ups twice a day.. 3 sets each ..In the morning do 3-sets of 20 p/u and 75 s/u .. The again at night.. Walking fast helps are jogging 3 miles in less than 25-30 min..Eat big breakfast medium size lunch with some small snacks like fruit or fiber bar in between and then small dinner. Salad, fish, chicken and veggies all in small portions. Breakfast is number one need to eat a good size breakfast. If you join the gym you need to stay away from pumping heavy weights it will just help/give you arm pump.. Do light weights and lots of cardio. When I raced alot I would take a backpack fill it with sand and walk up and down a steep 100 yard hill.. Halfway up I felt I was gonna die but after a few weeks I was able to go up and down 10 times and it helped me huge physically and mentally.. Anything you do just stick to it habits form after 21 days they say.. The more you eat healthy and workout the better you ride but biggest of all is you mentally get strong from it all and know that when you race you should not get tired and nobody is working as hard as you and from there it just gets better and better. In the novice class with short laps you need to worry on sprint speed and being able to bust out 6 hard fast laps and that is only gonna happen with 1. riding alot and working on your sprint speed and 2. cardio/healthy eating so you mentally know you can do it.
I just bought a Norditrac treadmill and some ifit training cards. They are 8week training programs and teach you alot of stuff.. Im going to lose 35lbs by Dec and then I can finally jump into the 38 + othg expert class hehe these new 30 yr old dudes are like freakin pros..
Good luck and know that all it takes is a small amount of dedication and commitment and you will UP your game huge.

You want the truth!!! You got to loose some weight first, you a big ass boy.

If you are serious:
Diet is #1 = There should be nothing in your cart but fresh fruit, vegies, chicken, fish and small portions of lean steak. Small portions throughout the day. Don't eat three big ass meals (except a big breakfast) and until you loose some weight try like hell to keep it under 2000 calories a day.
(Pretty much you can't ever eat out)

Workouts:
Cardio, cardio, cardio at least one hour a day in the evening. Running, rowing, cycling, mix it up, try not to do the same thing everyday.

In the mornings get your ass up early and do strength exercises. Pushups, pullups and situps every morning and lift heavy ass weights with your legs. You can't do to many squats. Jeff Ward was the master of keeping the legs strong, that is what you control the bike with. Without strong legs it doesn't matter how good a shape the rest of your body is in.

#1 Thing. Burn more than you eat **EVERY SINGLE DAY** until you get down to a good riding weight and then work from there. There is a reason you don't see any fat pros on the line at a national. It really isn't rocket science, you just have to have the mental toughness to take care of yourself and put in the hard work.
