Jason Lawrence in jail
Found this on RacerX.
Racer X Online has learned that Boost Mobile/Yamaha of Troy's Jason Lawrence spent Friday night in a local jail here in Red Bud, Michigan, following an incident yesterday afternoon.
Lawrence has been released on bail, but the AMA is expected to bar him from racing this weekend, and further, his team is considering terminating his contract.
Stay tuned for more from Red Bud.

Re: Jason Lawrence in jail
this is sad. Ya know... there's more here than just some punk kid who doesn't get it. Like any youngster who goes south, it's the people around him as well who bear some responsiblity. In this case, we have team mgrs, AMA officials, and so many other people in this kid's life. But apparently, the moral here is if you are fast and making money for yourself and your team (and the AMA, as J-law becomes a spectacle that people want to watch), then these others will turn a blind eye. The recent limp dick response by the AMA to the Texas incident is a great example of sending the wrong msg. In short, it seems J-law has gotten the msg that his behavior, although juvenile, was OK. What's truly sad is that this is a family sport... not like the NBA or NFL, where basically, those players are commodities and pretty much only role models for ghetto folks who are dumb enough to think sports is their only ticket out. So, J-law's continued poor behavior, now involving jail, is a black mark on this sport and those who participate in it.
Anyway... Lawrence definately should take full responsiblity for being an idiot, but that responsiblity should also be shared by those around him who tolerate it in one form or another... which seems to have been mostly in the form of denail and innaction. The result... everyone (and this sport) losses.

More on Lawrence
By Jason Weigandt
Davey Coombs has reported that the AMA has suspended Jason Lawrence indefinitely, so he will not be racing this weekend at Red Bud, and possibly not for the rest of the 2008 season. In addition, the $25,000 fine that was posted as probable to Lawrence after the Freestone National for a rental car incident has now been collected and donated to the Asterisk Mobile Medical unit.

I have to disagree with this analogy. First, Lawrence isn't anywhere near as accomplished as Emig so he doesn't deserve to be compared to Emig, and second while Emig did enjoy partying and smoking some bud (as did a lot of the mx stars of the 90's) he wasn't as big of a punk ass as J-Law. Emig was known for riding a wide bike and got into some scuffles with the likes of Larocco back in the day, but he didn't seem to disrepect the sport at the level that J-Law does.
