Neck protector

I was all gun hoe about getting these neck protecters for my boys back in january and they told me how gay they are but with recent events with local and national riders I feel like I need to provide at least some type of protection for them we currently use the evs neck roll and the old football linebacker neck roll ziptied to the chest protector I understand about when you throw a leg over a bike thing. but do you guy's know OF anything ON the market that may limit the seriousness OF these injuries

The reason I broke my back at Arco was because I landed on my head, and my chinpiece smashed forward and down into my chest. A neckroll may have prevented my helmet from moving so far down. Gay or not, I'm going TO try one. I'd rather be "gay" than be laying in a hospital bed having nurses putting catheters up your wewe and suppositories up your hiney.

Believe me, you lose all your dignity when you have to pee and poop in bags, catheters, etc. So, ask your boys which one is more "gay." I think you'll have a quick answer.

amen to that harvdog, good to see u back up man, u had me worried for a second. there is nothing gay'R than HAVING a male nurse stick a tube up ur "wewe". u used TO wear one, but i stopped casue it got REALLY hot AND it limits ur range OF motion (good FOR WHEN u fall, NOT good WHEN u dont)

EVS came out with something that hooks to your chest protector. But I haven't seen anyone actually wearing one yet. I have one made by PCS(I think that IS the company) AND it IS NOT even noticable. I want TO GET a thicker one, OR maybe tape two OF them together.

For what it's worth....I READ someplace that if your head IS subjected TO a side impact, the neck protector (together WITH the helmet) could actually WORK TO leverage your head away FROM your torso. Scary!!!

I've also heard that most serious neck injuries occur when your head gets pushed forward toward your chest (as you described, harvdog). If you look at the PCS and SixSixOne neck rolls, they don't seem TO offer much protection FROM such an impact.

I'm totally freaked out by neck injuries and I'm NOT "too cool" FOR a neck roll. WITH so many kids wearing them, I think it has become MORE "socailly acceptable" anyway. But I'm still not sure weather a neck roll (or donut) is the solution to neck injuries. I'm OPEN TO various arguments though...anyone out there WITH a medical background care TO chime IN...

My son AND I BOTH wear the EVS RC2 collar AND it's hardly noticeable at all, it has loops where you can zip tie it to your CP but we just wear them loose. I really only notice it when I'm sitting ON my bike AND I turn TO look behind me. AND FOR those "fashion conscious" riders, I don't think they're really noticeable FROM a "spectator" standpoint either, you have TO look CLOSE TO see if a rider IS wearing one.

Brad has always wore one. In one race it fell off and he said he felt like he was riding naked. He wears the EVS donut that is independent of the chest protector or helmet. I'm NOT 100% positive what effect they have during a crash, but most football players who ARE being paid millions OF dollars ALL seem TO wear them, so there must be a reason FOR it. I think it's like wearing a seat belt in a car.......there are documented accidents where you would be better off not wearing a seat belt, but those are very rare. I think a neck role is the same way. It is going to protect you more than hurt you.
As far as looking gay.....I know a lot kids who wish they could ride like Millsaps. Does he look gay

harvdog has a good point, no matter how gay they look or feel you should wear one. i was shady about the feel of them at first but after a while i became acustomed to wearing one and it started to feel natural.

P.s
I know how you feel harv, in 2001 i broke my back also, i broke the t2,t3,t4,and t5, those cathiders suck a$$ and the supositories dont feel good as well. i had to wear a milwakee back cast for 5&1/2 months. but now i back on my game. hope you heal up nice and good and get back on the bike
