New Track in California City

I finally got released by my doctors to ride my dirtbike again, but... with this crappy, rainy weather haven't had a chance. This weekend my husband and I decided we'd had enough and headed for the desert sun. Someone on this site mentioned going to California City this weekend, so I did a little research and found out they have a brand new track. This place was GREAT!!! We had never been to Cal. City before and did not know what to expect, but picture typical desert riding (RV's parked all around with people heading off on trails in every direction) and then put a well maintained track right in the middle. This track was TECHINCAL... I didn't even try it, but my husband did. It looked like so much fun. Long whoop section, several rythym sections, doubles/triples, big bowl corners, sand and loamy soil, long straights. (BTW, everything was rollable for beginners and they had a bypass around the whoops.) There were only about 12 guys riding the track on Saturday and a few more than that on Sunday. I talked to the couple that opened the track and it took them 4 years to get it going. They seemed to be running a very professional and rider friendly track, they had flaggers and took a couple breaks in the day for watering. Also had a pee wee track with whoops and table top jumps. Fun for the little ones.
Best part for me... the endless desert riding, great for rehab. Mostly decomposed granite, but some deep sand areas. I got on my bike and rode for over half an hour in one direction before having to turn around and head back to refill the gas in my tank. My knee is a little sore today, but I was so happy to be out on my bike again. It was 70-75 degrees all weekend, with NO rain. Not sure I would go there in the heat of the summer though.
This place is great for a weekend trip when the family wants to do some camping, desert trail riding, and get some time in on an advanced track. I have some video of the track that I will try to link later, but check out their website calcitymxpark.com.

We got sick of the rain too and went to California City. Mainly for our sons to get in some practice. They wore the pee wee track out Saturday and Sunday it is excellant for the little guys. Then on Sunday they took a shot at the main track. It is a great track and well worth the drive. We aslo got in quite a bit of riding in the area surrounding the track. Best Money I have spent this winter, oh wait its supposed to be spring! 20.00 a day or 35.00 for the weekend.

There website has the address and directions, www.calcitymxpark.com, but basically head to Bakersfield, the take 58 east, exit Hwy 14 north (towards Bishop) go a few miles and take a right on California City blvd, follow it through town (which is not much) stay to the left onto 20 Mule Team Road and you'll see the signs to the track. There is a rest area on the left before you get to the track where you can fill up on water(donations), and they have a dump station. The trip from Sac. took us just over 7 hours, but we stop a lot.

Check out the pitures on their site too, that photo that looks like an off camber double is not an optical illusion, that is really how the jump looks, it's sick.
