Best Tire for E Street
I'm curious what everyone has FOUND TO be the best tires FOR conditions AT E Street. IN general do you go WITH an intermediate tire LIKE a Dunlop 756 OR Bridgestone 401/402, OR a dedicated sand tire Different front/back It seems TO me that although there ARE SOME really sandy spots, there ARE also places WHERE it gets pretty packed, I'd think a dedicated sand tire might get a little squirrely in those areas...
Fastener, I noticed last weekend that Brad had a 402 on the back, is that his usual choice for E Street Does he run a 401 in front

I use 756's. Sometimes a Maxxis IT ON the rear, but always a 756 up front.

I run the Maxxis SI tires front and rear. I used to run the 756. they don't WORK ANY better but they sure do cost a lot MORE! I would GET a INT. tire OF whatever brand you can GET your best deal ON.

Yes, Brad runs a 402 rear and a 401 front everywhere. I had an interesting conversation with Mike Gossler (RC's mechanic) 2 years ago AT Mammoth. I asked him what tires Ricky ran AT Hangtown AND Washougal AND he told me that Ricky runs the same tires everywhere unless they run INTO a major blue groove track THEN they change TO a hard pack tire. His reasoning was that he knows what the tire will do AND he would rather make the adjustments AS necessary instead OF relying ON the tire TO make the adjustments. I thought this sounded very logical AND we have done the same ever since WITH very good results. The one TIME we changed was LAST YEAR AT Mammoth. We tried a different rear tire because OF the concrete start AND Brad who usually gets very good starts got a terrible start. We will never do that again. I say the 401, 402 combo IS the best OR if you ARE a dunlop guy the 756 front AND rear. Also tire pressure IS very critical. Tire manufactures build AND design the tires TO be run AT 12 psi. If you run a higher OR LOWER pressure the tire will NOT WORK RIGHT. Remember TO always CHECK your tire pressure WHEN the tire IS cold AND CHECK it often during the DAY. 12 psi AT 7:00am can turn INTO 14psi AT noon WHEN the temperature IS warmer.

I run the same tire everywhere as well - the Michelin StarCross MH2. Great tire for 90% of the tracks, and it wears really well also.

Good info, thanks Fastener. I know you're right about the tire pressure but as mentioned in the other thread I seem to need an extra pound or two for pinch flat protection. If I was as smooth and precise as Brad I wouldn't worry about it, but I tend TO CASE stuff, overjump, underjump, AND make ALL sorts OF other stupid mistakes
Thanks everyone FOR the suggestions!
