SCMX stuff

I've been educating the boys over at SouthBayRiders.com that SCMX does exist and will also be having a Spring race series that includes both the SCMX and Metcalf tracks.

Surprisingly, many of the riders have not heard about SCMX or are brainwashed that Metcalf is the only place to be. What a bunch of dorks... huh?

I know Shawn is diligently working on a new website and doing his best to make the track a huge success, (no pressure Shawn) but till then, I'll include here what I added over there just so you know your options.

Yes the track will be prepped!

Dave, your the man. Thank you. Yes the Metcalf track will be prepped. We will be there 3 days early for each round and are going to put a lot of time into Metcalf so hopefully we can use it in the future a few times a year or so. We are planning on reversing the track. All the jumps will be wider and we definetly will make a few new obsticals. There are no memberships required to race at any of our races and the entry fee is just $30. Our new website SantaClaraMX.com will be up maybe as soon as later today but I'll post more when it is accually done. Thanks again Dave for helpin out. And just a reminder we are closed today because of some festival at the fairgrounds and we are accually closed next thursday-saturday because of another event. So next week, Tuesday and wenesday are the only 2 days we are out there. Oh... and Thursday-Monday is 5 days I have to reverse and change up our track!! See you out there.

SCMX needs a more STADIUM style layout. When CMA ran it with their stadium style layout the track was funner, offered some sections where pros and inters would triple and the pits were FULL. Put in some whoops, some doubles and triples, step on step offs and take out that 5th gear straight along the fence and you have a great start.

Shawn,

I didn't mean to step in on your tuff - there were just a few things that came up on the SouthBay forum this week that made it clear that these guys needed a kick in the head about what their options are on where to ride.

Since I composed this listing for them, via your lastest track flyer, I figured I might as well post it here and at ThumperTalk-California.

I just really want to see SCMX go all the way and stick around for as long as possible.

Dave

a stadium style track would scare off the beginner crowd of riders... that would probably make them go under..

The place was forced to shut down before when they had the stadium type layout. It has already been proven to fail. If the pits were full they would have never shut down in the first place. Take a look at how Charlie ran Riverfront (people always complaining that the track was to easy) Those pits were always full. It is painfully obvious that there is a bigger market in Beg. /Nov. riders than Int./ Pro riders. There is a huge bunch of people racing the d-36 cross country series. If a track could attract this group it would be huge. Throw in 1 triple though and you just kissed all that money good by.

I think the best thing you can do is create two separate lines within the same track - one line for intermediates/pros and the other for novice/beginners.

This has worked very well at Club Moto and the old SJMX. You can put a big triple next to a smaller double and have both of them conclude into the same corner.

You can also have a whoops section and a path for going around.

This way you can literally ride side-by-side with other riders of various skills and it provides more options for whatever you need or want.

The true playground would also incorporate an enduro-cross section as well.
