YZF triple clamp offset

Has anyone tried triple clamps with different offset on their '06 or '07 YZF? If so, which offset and how well did it work?

well it depends on which one you have.. the 06 or 07 cause the 06 handles like a dump truck and the 07 handles like corvette... i know a couple of guys were going with the 20-22mm offset depending on which brand of triple clamp you go with... and they both had top and bottom clamps..

osulli170,
I am just wondering, how do you know that the 06 handles like a dump truck, and the 07 handles like a corvette? Have you ridden both? Is this something you have read? I have an 06 and it is the best handling bike I have ever had. I have spoken to some riders who have ridden both the stock 06 and 07 and they say that they could not tell the difference, of course they were novice riders, which I am also.

I was thinking at first to change the triples on my new 06. After setting the correct sag, sliding the forks up 5mm and putting on an aggressive front tire my 06 YZ250F turned awesome! No need for triples for me. I would put your money in your suspension. I have seen plenty of intermediate and pro's running stock on the 06. Just a novices' opinion.

oh ride with a couple of guys that have ridden both, an Int and Pro.. and yah when they put on the offset clamps they said it turned like a Honda .. haha jk
but thats what they say.. and i have heard of a couple of fast guys saying that it pushes and want to wash out.. ive ridden an 07 yzf250 and it turner like my 06 Honda.. he has RG3, different bars, and it was done by BR1.. nad the only thing that i have doen to my bike is lower my bars alittle.. completely stock and i didnt even set the sag..(which is a mistake on my part)... and he has an 06 yzf450 and said that it didnt turn with the stock clamps..

so im just posting what i have heard from 3 faster riders
that i ride with.. im not a Yamaha guy so what do i know.. oh and i believe they didnt make the radiator lowering blocks for nothing...

Re: YZF triple clamp offset

I have been on Yam's for the last 3 yrs, until very recently when I got an 07 CRF. I rode both the 06 YZF 450, and 07 YZF 450 before buying my 07 CRF 450. I bought the CRF because it corners better than both the 06 and 07 Yam.

More specifically, the 07 Yam handles much better than the 06 Yam. Why, I'm not exactly sure. I dont know if it's because the changed the rake, they shifted the angle and weight of the motor, they tinkered with the clamps, forks, etc. But, it is a noticable difference between an 06 and 07 Yam. If I were blindfolded, I could tell you which bike I was on in the corners.

With that said, the 07 CRF450 handles better than the 07 YZF in the corners. On the staights, that's a different story, which I won't address here.

If you are looking for the best cornering bike, and are only considering Yam or Hon (in the 450 class... I can't speak to the 250's) then based on first hand experiene, I'd say Honda is better. Does that make it a better overall bike? No. But, it makes is a better cornering bike for sure.

Now, if you really want the best cornering bike? Suz. It rocks in the corners, but is not as nearly as good at other things, where the Hon and Yam blow it away, like overall suspension (Yam) or sheer power and pull (Honda).

Re: YZF triple clamp offset

Rg 3 Recomends a 22mm offset for the 450 and 250, but moving the forks to the first line on the fork tubes made a diffrence.

I have an 07 YZ, and it tends to push out on corners once you're into the apex. It also wants to stand up in corners. You can aim for the inside line, and get there, but you can't stay there. Raise the bars 5 mm, and set the sag at 95mm, and the other thing I have heard from friends, is that the Dr. D radiator lowering kit works wonders ! I figured I would just run less coolant ! lol
