post vintage/vintage
Most of you on NorCal are younger riders that dont remember when there was no/very little fork/shock travel, no disc brakes, no watercooling and dont look like the bikes of today. For some of you that are interested, post vintage is a pretty cool gig- its basically bikes from 1976/77 to some that go up to 84/85. As long as it runs drum brakes, it can be watercooled, have the long travel suspension. It's a cool gig and when they have the National events with both vintage/post vintage, you really get to see some of the historic bikes us older riders use to ride on rougher track then there are now. Sandhill is having I believe a post vintage (not sure about vintage) toward the end of April and periodically, pros from just a few years ago show up and ride the old bikes. Its another way to race, have fun, have a beer and bench race. You can find post vintage bike sometimes for under a grand that run real good and for those who dont have the time/money to race new bikes every weekend, its a gathering of ol friends and giving respect to the pros of those days to where motocross wouldnt be where it is now. It makes you wonder how the heck those riders went so fast on the old equipment. Take the time and check it out- an inexpensive way to moto and bench race with friends and past champions.

Re: post vintage/vintage
don't do it ! if you race / ride new stuff , you'll be lucky if you don't eat **** . Andy , I had the most bitchen OSSA phantom that you ever saw . the whole time that I owned club moto from "96 till " 04 " I just fixed it up . works performance shocks , hand built pipe , powder coated hubs with new stainless spokes by tcr racing , kieth lynas motor with yamaha rod to keep it from grenading , etc. I thought " this will be great , some day I'll take it to sandhill and ride it around and have a great time , just like when I raced hangover in 91 and got 2nd behind dick mann " I took it to sand hill last year and was amased at what a pile it really was . I sold it two weeks later . I have to agree with jody wiesel on this one " I didn't want to race my 73 cz in 74 , I sure don't want to race it now " they look good in the garage , but the new bikes are so much easier to ride ( read bigger margine for error ) , that if you don't ride the old ones exclusively , then there not much fun , in my opinion .

Re: post vintage/vintage
The Brad Lackey vintage race has been on the calendar for some time.
http://www.norcalmotocross.com/forum...=2007-4-14&c=1
My clubs (Nevada Old Timers and the Reno OTHG) are having a race on 3/31-4/1 at Fernley. It is a fund raiser for the Fernley lions club.
We are running a Vintage class on saturday if anyone wants to race their vintage bikes in some real deep sand.

Re: post vintage/vintage
I have to agree with Kirk on this one. Something about the thought of getting on an outdated bike, trying to ride it with the thoughts of my current bike just doesnt sound like a fun day at the track. If Im going to go down, I want to do it on my bike anyways.
