OTHG request
I am posting this for my Dad, a member of OTHG, because he was landed on last weekend in the 45+ novice race at E st and now has a broken leg with 2 plates, 2 screws and 6 pins.
I am requesting the OTHG ban 450Fs from their races. The reason is that those bikes are too powerful for OTHG racers and most people who ride with the exception of Pros/Ints. The guy who landed on my Dad (I don't know his number) got his bike sideways, pinned it was launched across the track and into my Dad, if he had been on a 250F like my father or 250 two stroke he would not have been launched. Before all you old guys start screamin that you need the low end for a 450 or whatever, remeber that my Dad went from dead last in the novice class to 5th on the CRF250X! Please OTHG, ban 450s, the racing will still be just a good with everyone on 250s.

Luke , first of all, very sorry to hear about your dad. I didnt even know there was a second injury out at Estreet this past weekend. Please keep us informed as to how he's doing. What chapter is he with?
Please also understand that in motorsports racing there are bound to be 'incidents' that occur and that most everyone that comes out to a track does not expect nor trys to injure another human being. What most people dont realize is that this is another one of those dangerous sports like many others that we all can (and will) at sometime get injured from.
Banning a specific motorcycle from racing is not the answer to anything that occurred with your dads injury or can be blamed for any others. The individual is in control (or out of control) on that bike. Its the same as saying that guns kill people.... no, people kill people with guns.
There are many very capable people out there riding 450's and they enjoy riding within their own capabilites and taking on that responsibility. Maybe we can ask some of the guys that you mention to please take stock of their own lives and please understand that their own individual stupity can land others and themselves in the hospital IF they are not careful.
Again sorry to hear about your Dad, Take care of him, and get him back on the track.....

Re: OTHG request
buy you cant always blame the rider, maybe he got crossed up and went to the side, thats not stupidity its just something that happened, thats like saying in a horse race the horse trips and takes out all the other horses and the call the horse or the rider stupid, its just something that happens, i was not there tho so i do not know what happened, it could be stupidity or it could just be a mistake

Re: OTHG request
Luke, Men are men and can (usually) take responsibility for thier actions, and they can decide what bike they want to race. Motocross racing is full of on the track variables which can go your way or not. This happens to be a case where your Dad was on the short end of an unfortunate situation. Pointing fingers and placing blame on a certain sized bike is not the sollution. Accepting responsibility for being out there, in a race is. If you race, you open yourself up to many possibilities. Hope your Dad heals quickly. One more thing Luke. A 250 2 stroke will get away from someone easier that a 450. Especially in the hands of an inexperienced rider.

Easy Luke. You really have to think before you post. The ONLY reason you are not getting lit up by most people on this board is because they understand you are a kid and you are emotional about your dad.
With that said, I agree, most vet riders do not need 450's. I myself went from a 450 to a 250f and my riding improved tons. It was the best move I made, but banning something is just stupid.
You cannot say the crash wouldnt have happened on a 250F. Those bikes are plenty fast as are 250 2 Strokes. Riding motorcycles is dangerous. Racing motorcycles I think is actually safer than just going out riding with your buddies in the woods, but thats a converstation for another day. My point is, your dad is a smart guy, he would not be riding/competing if he didnt understant the risks.
Did you ask him if he wanted 450's banned?

Re: OTHG request
It's a real bummer about your dad. However if he was riding a 450 himself he might have been either a little further up the track, or further back. Either way possibly avoiding the accident. With that logic maybe we should ban 250f's.
Hope he heals up fast.

Re: OTHG request
Luke it is cool to see someone concerned as you are about your dad..I also wish him the best...With that said,,most guys racin in the OTHG have been riding or racing a long time. The bike has zero to do with it,,and as Tom stated earlier a 250 two stroke might even be worse... All of us get hurt,,and at some point bad,(Myself I did a faceplant at 40mph over the bars) and broke numerous body parts...My friend at the end of the day,,that was my fault. Period..I know how to ride, jump, corner and I blew it plain and simple...Your Dad did the same.. Just support him, and maybe MX isnt the proper choice at this point for some...Take care and tell him all of us OTHG Riders are pulling for a great recovery.

Re: OTHG request
Sorry I shot my mouth off, I've been kinda mad all week. Everyone has a point about it being an accident and motocross being dangerous, however my Dad and I know what happened. The guy attempted to make a pass between the step up and the big table, one place where I've only see pros/ ints make a pass, lost control and landed on my dad. My Dad joined OTHG because he thought it was a bunch of old guys racing for fun and he wouldn't have to worry about people trying to make suicide passes. Again I'm sorry posting without thinking.

Re: OTHG request
Knee-jerk reaction or not, I'm glad you went ahead and made your post. Not to sound all righteous & everything but hopefully it will serve to remind us OTHG guys to maintain the "we all gotta work on monday" philosphy.
