With Todd Nelson, the California MX Park owner and myself from the NorCal site in attendance, the discussion involved the meeting by 2-3 of the captains of the 6 groups (Trail/Facilities Maint., Monitoring trails, Education (mainly rider ed), Funding needs and Longterm Planning) with the Forest Service and updating/designating the remainder of people to a group.
Funding, especially creating the
friendsofforesthillohvtrails@gmail.com as a non-profit corporation, was discusssed during a good portion of the meeting and other solutions to the funding issue. But as of now, forming a non-profit corportation and getting all the lowdown on being one is being done.
A board of directors named and by laws are to be written.
ON JUNE 16th, 2007, AT 4:00 pm, their will be a freestyle MX show, a barbeque, live auction (I believe riding gear/helmets, etc) and a selling of raffle tickets for two 110cc quads.
On April 16th, it is designated as "Trail Maintenance Day". It's a Monday and please, everyone interested in helping e-mail the friends of foresthill address above.
Anyone that is willing to donate Chain Saws, Shovels, Pics, Wheelbarrows or any item that will help the trail maintenance people e-mail the site. Also, 3/4 aggregate gravel is needed. Contact the E-Mail site and let them know what you have to donate in materials. Lumber for bridges and construction time as mentioned before is needed.
On April 14 & 15, if you are interested in training to be a chain sawer and recieve a level certificate to help with the April 16th Trail Maintenance Day, Please e-mail the friends of Foresthill address due to limited number than can be trained if you're interested.
I will keep the group up to speed on SB 742 and like Hrlyman, Mr. Moe did, encourage every rider regardless of what discipline (MX, CC, HS or just a trail rider) to write to your lawmakers on the bill and what parts that trouble you about the bill (like raising the green sticker price over 100%, but the OHV funding levels remain the same?). Or that you own a red sticker bike and how the bill will make the bike basically worthless. The "new" emission standards. Try to include in your letters that you care about enviromental issues, you are environmentally concious and there can be compromise that can satisfy all groups. And thanks to those that have already wrote/contacted their lawmakers.
Memorial day weekend, if not before is the target date Foresthill will reopen. We will be kept notified. There will be info packets given to people on opening day and hopefully beyond educating them on use of the trails and other things to help the trails of Foresthill stay open.
Only 10-12 came to this meeting and the next meeting will be held April 19th at 6pm. Lets all band together on issues that can/will affect future riders and future generations of riders. To volunteer even ONE day to help Foresthill is gratifying and shows you really care about our sport. The Forest Service as I said before can apply for funding depending on levels of volunteer support and the mileage we use to come to these meetings.
So anyone that can volunteer time, materials or cash, e-mail the Friends site and they would GREATLY appreciate any help they can get and give you info as where to donate materials, write checks to and dates to volunteer.
I was e-mailed minutes from the meeting the Friends of Foresthill sent me as of 1pm. Check that site as well for additional info. "Minutes of FH meeting, 3.29.07.
