back pain...
My dad is having really bad lower back pain right now, and has a big knot in his upper thigh. like as I type this. Hes going to a massage theripst (yeah i probably spelt it wrong) and it seems to have made it worse. he's tried icy hot and that stuff didnt help just made it worst. he put ice on it too, no help. and the heating pad made it hurt too. when he tries to walk he kinda has to hobble. and he cant sit for a long time. does anyone know what the problem is or what can make my dad feel better? my mom took me and my brother to the track today and he came later in the day and he could barely walk to the stands any help would be great.

Re: back pain...
You should have the knot on his thigh checked out. Read this. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) - Blood Clots in the Legs
Hopefully Im wrong.

Re: back pain...
I think she was hoping for something like:
Oh yeah, I had that. Tell him to rub three rubarb stalks on his nipples, and eat 7 boogers, he will be good to go.
The fact that your dad hasn't gone to the doctor yet means he's a stubborn old bastard. Tell him to go first thing Monday morning. Remember I am no doctor, but the knot in the thigh makes me think blood clot, but only if it just magically appeared out of nowhere. That would also sound unrelated to the back pain. Chronic back pain in people who have worked manual labor for years, usually is some sort of disc deterioration. If that's the case, he's going to be uncomfortable for a while. It could also be kidney pain, is he feverish as well?
Nobody is likely to be of help here, he should just see his doctor.

Re: back pain...
Brandi,I am a suddo expert on backs..I have had back surgery and have self educated myself..My number one recomendation is GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR , not a doctor...Find a sports one, They really can help and wont do it by using drugs etc.....CHIROPRACTOR...You can PM me if you have specific questions..It is his L5 S1 Disk that is sitting on his nerve probably....The most common issue since MAN WALKED ON TWO FEET...CHIROPRACTOR!!!!

Re: back pain...
Hey Brandi,
I've been dealing with low back pain for years and my pain goes into my leg and knots up a lot too. I had a surgery in 2005 and it helped a little, but I still have pain.
My advice is as others say, First go to the doctor, not a chiropractor. The doctor can diagnose, chiropractor just crack. I've been to a lot of chiros, but the fix was only temporary since I had a bad disc. Second, if your dad is going to get meds, please don't let him get vicodin or any of the narcotics. They can and will make a guy very short tempered. After all this time I found a medication called Cymbalta that works so good it's unbelievable, but he will have to talk to a doctor and get a prescription. It elevated my mood and took the pain away almost completely. The doctor will be able to see if there's something major going on in there too. I'm not a doctor, but being around this for a long time it sounds like he damaged a disc and really needs a doc.

Chris with all due respect you are wrong..It is the other way around.Simple to analyze it..Ask a Chiro how many hours he learns about backs, joints, nerves etc..Then ask a Doctor...The Chiro has about 10 times more education in that department..The Medical Doctors hours are being consumed by pharmesutecials ..That isnt a opinion it s documented fact, plus me being a patient over a long period could tell you how many times Medical Doctors misdiagnosed me...It was a Chiropractor that found the issue and then helped find the right Neurosurgeon to fix it!!!
