Driving Rules Taking Effect July 1, 2007

Just wanted to pass this along for your information.

Remember, not knowing the law is not an excuse!

1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting 7/1/07 (The $271 posted on
the highway is old). Don't do it again because 2nd time is going to be
double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended.

2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don't cross the lane on solid lines or
intersections.

3. Block intersection - $485

4. Driving on the shoulder - $450

5. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of
07/01/07.

6. Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts - both passengers and
drivers get tickets .

7. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit.

8. DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)

9. As of 07/01/07 cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.
Ticket is $285. They will be looking for this like crazy - easy money
for police department.

Sorry but California's hands-free cell phone law takes effect in July 2008.

See here California Passes Cell Phone Law

This list has been floating around the internet for a while now and while the items are mostly correct (except the fees are definitely wrong), the california cell phone one is a year off.

The news channel did a show on how all these "laws" are circulating, but they are not true. Hands free cell phones go into effect july 1 2008. Thanks though

Is there a cop who can verify these laws,,,The carpool lane they should just be shot on the spot...I hate those BMW ASSWIPES who never follow that law..I see them all day long ,Highway 4, 101 up in Dr. Mike Area, Sunol...Just shoot them

He's right. It's not true. Besides its only breaking the law if you get caught. LOL. J/K of course.

Re: Driving Rules Taking Effect July 1, 2007

DUI should be = jail for life!!!!!!! ok well maybe a little less, it should be same you would get for assault with a deadly weapon, because DUI is like assaulting every person you drive by

the carpool lane seems like the worst one without going to jail, i think its the cell phone one that should have a bigger fine because you are putting more people in danger on a cell phone than in a carpool lane, they did a study saying that driving while on a cell phone is almost if not worse than being drunk.

the ticket for the seatbelt thing is dumb, i mean i tell my friends(in the front seat) to buckle up when i catch them not having a seatbelt on, but i should be responsible for them not having a seatbelt on and paying for it, im not their baby sitter especially them being over 18. Im not sure about the back seats but i think they are not required to have seatbelts in the back seat??

ill probably get cought being on a cell phone lol

Re: Driving Rules Taking Effect July 1, 2007

My bad for not confirming my source

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed legislation that prohibits the use of handheld mobile phones while driving in the state.

Effective July 1, 2008, the legislation prohibits drivers from using a wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle unless the driver uses a hands-free device. Drivers who violate the law will face a base fine of $20 for a first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense.

Exempt emergency personnel, farm vehicle operators, tow truck drivers and commercial truck drivers.

Exempt motorists making 911 calls.
