Big renovations coming to Perris Raceway

R Johnson, S Tortelli purchase Perris Raceway, full renovation planned

Rick Johnson & Sebastien Tortelli, have purchased Perris Raceway in Perris, California.

Both Johnson and Tortelli are former racers, having won multiple World & AMA Motocross and Supercross Championships.

A full and complete renovation is planned, to bring the facility up to world-caliber standing. These plans include new infrastructure, three race tracks, hospitality & lodging facilities, offices, and more.

Multiple series and races will be held at the facility as always, and the new Champ Factory MX School will operate at Perris as well.

Rick Johnson said today "I wish I had a facility like this to help me when I was younger. I enjoy teaching and instructing riders, and our new facility will have everything we need in one place. We'll have camps and sessions for all skill levels, from beginner to pro. Over the past few years, I've worked with Sebastien, we've become close friends, and we are business partners in a multitude of areas, including Champ Factory MX schools and Perris Raceway."

And Sebastien had this to say "I always knew I wanted to be able to give back to the sport. I have a lot of experience and knowledge I've learned over the years, and I'm looking forward to sharing my knowledge with others. Our business model shows it should take almost two years for the complete renovation of the Perris Raceway facility, and I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised once our renovation is complete."

More info as it becomes available ...

Re: Big renovations coming to Perris Raceway

I live 14 miles from Perris now, here's my opinion.

They made the track a lot better but they've been making some serious mistakes at the races. Flyers and the website used to say gates opened at 2, but they really opened at 12 so people were showing up late for the first few rounds of the Hot Summer Nights series. Causing the racing to run past curfew and they cut laps short (3 laps for an intermediate race, come on).

Some of their changes definitely aren't for the best. The new practice schedule sucks. On Wednesday when the Pros usually show up, they are now open from 8am to 12pm, then they close for a few hours, then they reopen at 4pm until 9pm. They used to be open from 11am until 9pm. Now if someone shows up at 10am they can only ride for a few hours, lame.

I go there every single wednesday unless something serious gets in the way, so that's the only day I can remember the new schedule for. I might start going there from 8am until whenever I get bored, then going back at night with my dad once he gets off of work. Once you pay your $25 fee for the day you can go in and out whenever you want.

As far as the Champ Factory school goes, it's pretty expensive. I haven't gone to one and I probably never will, I can't afford to. I just go on Wednesday and follow the pros that's about as good of a school as you can get.

Tortelli is there every race day cooking burgers and hanging out. I needed to find a brake line last night at the races and he helped me find the # for a local shop that had one in stock. He's definitely a cool dude.

I'm happy they bought the place, now they just need some time to get their stuff together.
