Rode at SCMX today...

I decided to take the easy (i.e. short drive) way out today and ride at SCMX.
It's been a few months since I was there last.

The track is mostly tabletops. Some with an extra, longer landing. There are a
couple small short doubles. The longest jump is in the front, it's probably like
70+ feet but it's not a lot of height. I cleared all the jumps after 5 laps on the
track.

The prep was really good. Moist but not mucky. Lots of wood chips. They watered
throughout the day so it held up OK but got dusty in spots by around 2pm. Some
of the jumps had some rough approaches by the afternoon.

The track is pretty short, I'd say about 45 second(?) laptimes. Seemed about
half as long as Club Moto.

I think SCMX is doing a good job for their target crowd, which seems to be vets and
beginner-novices. I would have liked to see taller/bigger jumps, something that
scares me the first few times I hit it.

They segmented practices - kids, then vets/beg, then nov/int/exp. I rode a couple
times in the vet/beg then switched to the int/exp practices. Got passed by many
fast guys who had obviously ridden there a lot (the same way I pass a lot of guys at
CM since I ride there so much).

The little kid track is totally different - there are now no real jumps at all and it's
much shorter than before, and not watered. I think it's meant for like first-time
peewee riders now. At least they have practice for the kids on the main track
(but a lot of fast 85's are in that practice).

Overall, I had a good time but I guess I was missing CM. I don't know what was
so different other than CM having a longer track with elevation changes and at
least one taller/bigger jump. Prep-wise they're both similar. Hmmm. Maybe it's
just that I ride CM so much I have a hard time enjoying myself at other tracks.
Or maybe CM is just better suited to me.

I'll ride SCMX again here and there but I'm still a die-hard CM fan (and obviously
biased towards CM).

Oh yeah, I took some pix while I was there. I'll have 'em up later tonight I think.
