Best 80 for novice?

What 80 would you guys put a just turned twelve year old novice on?

He has an 04 ktm 60 but he has less than ten hours on it(my fault for not taking him out enough). He had a crf 50 before that.

He raced a few times and is mid pack on a good day.

Also I'm going to sell his 60. It has less than ten hours on it (really). It was bought new by me at the beginning of 05. Not abused at all.

What is it worth?

Re: Best 80 for novice?

Suzuki has a power valve and has a little more bottom end. The Yamaha feels lighter to my son. KTMs are way to expensive compared to the Jap bikes. All the kids that I have seen step up to 85s lately are choosing the RM or YZ.

Re: Best 80 for novice?

Well I am not one who can afford to get him a new bike every year so reliability is very important to me.

What is wrong with the Honda?

Not really into the grean bikes. Never have been....

Re: Best 80 for novice?

Well my local shop has a brand new left over 2006 RM 85 and I can have it for 2300.00 OTD.

Im told it was just burried in the back and got forgotten about?

THey say the 06 is the same as the 09?

What do you guys think?

Re: Best 80 for novice?

The only problem with honda is they no longer make 2 stroke 85's. I'm pretty sure 07 is the very last year, might even be 06 that they put one out. Parts may end up being a problem to get in the near future. I'd go rm they rip.
