Brad Kelly Motocross Schoools
Saturday December 15th I took a lesson from up and coming AMA pro Brad Kelly. Brad is a pro on the AMA circuit. Last year was his first full year as an AMA Pro. He made several Sunday programs and will be back at it this summer. He is based out of Yuba City and does lessons at E Street, Riverfront, Hangtown, or at a private track. The private track must be supplied by the student. His rates are very reasonable. 2 hours of instruction is only $150 bucks. You can get 3 hours for $200. He also does group instruction of up to 5 people, $100 each rider for a 2 hour lesson $125 for 3 hours.
I took the 2 hour lesson. I personally don’t think the 3 hour lesson would work for me. We covered enough ground in two hours to keep me busy the rest of the day. I took my lesson at E Street. I am most familiar with that track and I was able to explain my trouble areas the easiest. We took a lap around the track and I pointed out the spots I have the most trouble and we went to work. Brad watched me attack a particular section of the track a couple of times and then would pull me off the track and offer some ideas to improve my technique. He never said what I was doing was wrong; he was never negative in any way. He would hit the section of the track himself while pointing out some key areas for me to watch. Then I would repeat the section with Brad pulling me off the track every 3-4 passes offering encouragement and ideas. We didn’t move on to the next section until I was felt I was ready to move on. I really like the free form of the lesson. We didn’t have 10 minutes to work on turning and then 15 minutes for braking. He really listens and understands what the rider needs. Brad was very articulate in his explanations of technique and was a real pleasure to work with.
I highly recommend signing up for a couple of lesson; I know you will not be disappointed. You can get some details at his website Brad Kelly # 171 AMA Professional Motocross Racer.
I will be training with Brad over the next couple of months and I will be keeping everyone up to date with my race results and riding performance.
